Final Sprint 2019

What a sight to behold - seeing the Star Vista Theatre fully packed with more than 1,700 Great Eastern financial representatives, bursting with energy and motivation, gathered to face Q4 head-on together at Final Sprint 2019! And who better to match the energy of the crowd than our very own Faith Min from CFE who was an awesome host for the event.

This year’s space theme: ‘The Greatest Mission’, was incorporated throughout the event and it challenged our financial representatives to embrace change, push themselves out of their comfort zones, break boundaries and bravely conquer their goals.

Ben Tan, MD for Regional Agency/FA & Bancassurance, surprised everyone after the opening video by planting the Great Eastern flag on stage, re-enacting the first moon landing. He followed with his opening speech where he set the general direction and performance targets for the final quarter of 2019 and also shared inspiring real life success stories of our financial representatives to motivate everyone to believe in themselves, stay committed, and finish strong.

Colin Chan, MD for Group Marketing, then brought everyone up to date with our latest marketing campaigns on the various social media platforms and social outreach efforts. He also shared key product updates along with numerous new consumer promos to help our financial representatives with their goals.

Executive Senior Financial Consultant Eric Teng, who was our guest speaker for the day, then shared his knowledge on RP ILP products, life experiences and the importance for both spouses in a family to be equally covered.

George Goh, Head of Agency, closed the event with upcoming new initiatives and incentives. The crowd got especially hyped up with the announcement of the Q4 Bounce UP Challenge and the balloon drop that followed - a perfect ending to Final Sprint 2019, and a perfect start to the final quarter!

PCG Client Event – Joys and Rewards of an Art Journey

A strong and positive collaboration between Premier Client Group (PCG) and their business partners to support their clients’ interests and needs resulted in an art and whisky appreciation event on 14 Sep.

With this being an inaugural event at The Culture Story, an art salon for the 21st century, it was a refreshing event for both PCG consultants and their invited clients. Also in attendance were participating clients from our partners who are art lovers. Together, they received insights from the in-depth sharing by former stockbroker, Mr Chong Huai Seng, on how investors are embracing art as an asset. Mr Edrick Tang from AXA also imparted his knowledge on the available art insurance for these investors.

The event culminated with a networking session when participants enjoyed whisky and exchanged ideas and views on fine art.

MySalam Roadshows

“RM8,000, is a lot of money”.

This was one of the comments made by a farmer’s wife on the government’s health protection scheme mySalam (critical illness payout) at the Karnival Kewangan Perlis in late September.

Another participant expressed relief that there was a scheme to tide him over when he faced ill health.

Azlina Ideris, Assistant Vice President of Product Development, Great Eastern Takaful Berhad, said she was humbled to hear the comment, which was made by a few others who visited the promotional exhibition in Dewan Warisan, Kangar, which attracted about 1,600 visitors.

Many university students who hail from low income families visited the exhibition, and asked many questions about the health protection scheme, and were notably happy to learn about mySalam.

“One village head came the first day, asked a lot of questions. He then returned the next day and asked more questions, and upon inquiring, he said that he wanted to inform the people in his kampung that there was such a protection plan in place and that it was free.”

“This is the true spirit of doing good and caring for those in need,” Azlina summed up.

She also spoke of a similar engagement activity in Kuala Terengganu back in early April, which attracted a much larger crowd, including village heads who were very eager and dutiful in the way they took down all the details.

“Village heads, district officers, and many teachers were very attentive when we briefed them. One teacher in particular was very keen to get a clear understanding on the scheme. She told us she wanted to spread the word among her students’ parents, who were mostly from the low income bracket,” Azlina added.

GETB Gets Digital

Getting takaful cover just got easier – for our advisors and their customers with the launch of e-Certificate on 17 September.

Takaful advisors can now download e-Certificate documents through the i-Great Partner portal while certificate holders can log onto i-Get in Touch portal to do the same.

They can also choose the option to acknowledge receipt of the certificate through the digital system, saving the trip by the takaful advisor to get the necessary acceptance confirmation from the certificate holders.

For certificate holders, it offers maximum convenience, and they get to allocate more storage space.

For advisors, it allows better strategic utilisation of their time, sans the need to make multiple trips to collect certificate documents from agency offices and then having to deliver them to their clients.

It is also a win-win for business processes and better efficiency in backroom operations.

GETB Gets Digital

Most importantly though, we are doing our little part to protect our planet. Still, more needs to be done.

Take up rate for the e-Certificate is at 35% currently, and we need all the support we can get to spread the word towards higher take up rate.

Great Eastern General Insurance Indonesia Charity Programme 2019

Throughout the year, Great Eastern General Insurance Indonesia (GEGI) held a variety of corporate social responsibility activities under its Great Eastern Indonesia Charity Programme. Its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) mission is to provide assistance to communities in need and to empower them to be more independent.

One such CSR activity is supporting the Elsafan Foundation, a special school for 45 visually-impaired children and teenagers, some of whom have multiple disabilities. These children come from underprivileged families and of various tribal and religious backgrounds. In spite of their disabilities, these children excelled in singing, playing and some even took part at the Para-lympics!

GEGI has been supporting the Elsafan Foundation since 2017 . It also invited our business partners to  raise funds to sound-proof the walls of the main hall and music studio where the children gather for music classes and music therapy sessions.

This year, it sponsored the costs of repair and renovation works for essential facilities such as the kitchen, toilets, braille printing room and dry food storage areas.

Other CSR activities that were recently carried out by GEGI staff included a series of blood collection drives held at its three branches in Makassar (26 Sep), Surabaya (9 October) and Semarang (10 October). The blood donation drives received favourable support from agents, brokers, clients and the nearby communities.

LIFE is GREAT in Malaysia!

In September, LIFE Programme held “The Great Hustle” initiative under the Hustle2Muscle campaign, where participants were challenged to a variety of physical activities. They played games such as the 5-legged race, double dutch (skipping rope in pairs) and the crowd favourite “Careful What You String For”, where participants attempt to pass through obstacles without touching any obstacles such as bells. The top three teams with the highest scores walked away with a total of 850 LIFE Points!

On 1 October, Great Eastern Malaysia staff took part in the PERKESO: Activ@Work Challenge for 2019. The objective of the challenge was to encourage participants to stay active at home and at the workplace! During the 3-month challenge period, participants will use a mobile app to monitor their daily steps, which will then be converted into points. Great Eastern Malaysia is gunning to be crowned Most Active Employer at the  Activ@Work 2019 Awards!

To encourage GEM staff to be more active, some of the LIFE Programme activities planned during the challenge period include the Treadmill Challenge and Brisk Walk 2.0, where participants can stand to win attractive prizes on the spot. For the top average daily steps achievers, they will have a shot to win the grand prize of an Airpod in the Virtual Run: Hall of Fame!

Among the various photos contributed, the staff from the Samarinda office came up with an usual pose. Inspired by its branch head Bapak Johanes Gunawan, the team wore batik while posing happily next to their bicycles. At 58 years old, Bapak Johanes Gunawan actively campaigns the benefits of cycling for a healthy and happy life.
