A media session was held on 8 April to share about the exciting initiatives Great Eastern recently rolled out to equip our agency force to take customer advisory and customer experience to the next level.
Central to this is Great Digital Advantage – a digital platform to equip our agency force to serve customers into the digital future and enhance agency efficiency, productivity and professionalism. The digital capabilities currently launched on the platform are GreatAdvice, GreatPlanner, GreatPortfolio, Gerica, and Micro Learning, and these have been well received by customers and the agency force.
In his presentation, Ben Tan, Managing Director of Regional Agency/FA and Bancassurance, shared how digitalisation offers vast opportunities to help the community bridge their protection and financial gaps and that Great Digital Advantage is a game changer, transforming the way our agency force engages with customers.
He also shared on how we equip our financial representatives with both the ‘software’ and ‘hardware’ to enable them to better serve our customers. These include ramping up our training as well as onboarding programmes and investing in the next generation state-of-the-art agency premises at Paya Lebar Quarter. On the solutions front, we continue to design and offer innovative products to meet the evolving needs of our customers.
Four of our financial representatives were on hand to share about their experiences with GreatAdvice and to bring the media through a live demonstration of the financial planning tool.
Ryan Cheong, Managing Director of Digital for Business, closed the session by sharing on how the rise of the digital customers means we have to relook at how customers will see our representatives and the company and that customer centricity has to move beyond the touchpoints to all aspects of our business.

Achievers Day is a highly anticipated annual event where we not only recognise Great Eastern’s top achievers, but it also serves as a platform for our leaders and financial representatives to leverage and learn from the cream of the crop in our industry.
‘1nnovate, 1nitiate, 1gnite’ was the central theme this year and we saw the highest number of EEP/EP, ESD/SD qualifiers, significant growth in MDRT and IDA qualifiers, and a record number of GELAC Awards Achievers.
As Group CEO Mr Khor Hock Seng aptly mentioned in his opening speech, “Be not afraid of GREATness. Some are born great, some achieve greatness, and others have greatness thrust upon them”
The day was organised with specially curated content to motivate our representatives. The first keynote speaker, Mr Bon Sze Shean, is a fellow counterpart from GELM, who imparted valuable lessons on skills, habits and mindsets of an all-rounded achiever. Our representatives were on the edge of their seats as they journeyed and stepped out of their comfort zones with Grant ‘Axe’ Rawlinson, a sales explorer who has travelled from Singapore to New Zealand on a row boat powered by sheer human power. Two breakout sessions were also organised to cater to the differing needs of leaders and producers.
All in all, it was a fruitful and successful event, leaving our representatives energised and highly motivated to strive towards achieving GELAC Awards 2020, and GELAC New York Convention.
The Achievers Awards Night ‘Stars Extraordinaire’ was held on 12 April to celebrate and recognise the Top Achievers of 2018. The theme was chosen to highlight and recognise their extraordinary accomplishments for the year and the event was attended by the largest contingent of awardees and guests to date.
The Agency Business Development team put together an exciting performance in appreciation of the hard work by the Achievers. In his opening speech, Group CEO Mr Khor Hock Seng congratulated the achievers on being the top 20% of the agency force in Singapore and thanked them for their hard work and commitment. He also urged the achievers to continue striving for greater heights and to keep breaking records in 2019.
In his closing address, Managing Director of Regional Agency/FA & Bancassurance, Mr Ben Tan urged all achievers present to continue to work hard and be the top in 2019, with the goal to bring 2,000 financial representatives to New York for the GELAC 2020 convention.
GEFA Awards Night
Great Eastern Financial Advisers (GEFA) held its Awards Night on 17 April 2019. As compared to previous years, it was the largest gathering of GEFA achievers as well as distinguished guests in attendance.
The theme ‘The Greatest Dream’ was aptly chosen to inspire all guests to think of the great dreams they aspire to achieve. With reference to the ‘Greatest Showman’, the opening performance showcased a ballerina in a globe, dancing to the theme song of ‘A Million Dreams’. This dance resonated with many in the ballroom as it alluded to the pursuit of their dreams and turning them into reality.
In his speech, GEFA Chairman and Group CEO Mr Khor Hock Seng congratulated the GEFA team for the sterling growth and thanked all for their hard work. He urged all to continue the good work and aim for higher targets in the coming year – Being Better than BEST!
In her closing address, GEFA CEO Jesslyn Tan encouraged all who were present to continue to strive for the best, maintaining GEFA as the undisputed number 1 financial advisory firm in Singapore in the coming year.
Supremacy Summit Award Night
The Supremacy Summit Award Night is a crowning moment for many of our financial representatives in Malaysia and the gilded event was held over three days from 18 March to 20 March at the Genting International Convention Centre to over 1,000 attendees.
The event kicked off with a unique musical play themed “The Greatest Showman” by the talented CAD’s Business Development Team, with the crowd enthusiastically singing along and setting the celebratory tone for the rest of the night.
Chief Executive Officer, Dato Koh Yaw Hui, congratulated the award recipients and expressed how Great Eastern is committed to strengthen the professionalism of our agents and equip them to go the extra mile for their customers.
The senior management team also congratulated the awardees as they came onstage to receive their awards and recognition for their achievements.

Asia’s Got Talent Season 3
Great Eastern is the proud partner of Asia’s Got Talent (AGT) Season 3, the biggest talent competition in the world featuring some of the region’s most talented performing artists as they compete to take home the coveted winning title with prizes worth up to US$100,000. Adding to the excitement, the semi-finals and finale will be held at the iconic Marina Bay Sands in Singapore.
Through this sponsorship, we aim to increase brand awareness and to inspire the community to LIVE GREAT by pursuing their passions and achieving their dreams.
The season premiered on 7 February 2019 on Astro AXN channel with a total of 10 episodes and was supported by television promotions, print advertisements and a social media contest to help drive awareness and brand engagement.
Great Eastern Life Malaysia also organised the #RoadtoGreatness event held in Sunway Pyramid on 9 and 10 March 2019, with exciting live performances by the winner of AGT Season 2, The Sacred Riana, and also performances by the five acts from this season - NAMA from Malaysia, Yaashwin Sarawanan from Malaysia, Raisa Putri from Indonesia, Freaky Girls from Malaysia and Louis Sue from Singapore.
Partnership with Talenox
Talenox is a local start-up company providing organisations with a Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) platform to administer employee payroll and leave management. With a single administrator account, organisations can issue individual accounts to their employees for leave application. Payroll functions are also integrated with the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore which allows for tax filling directly from the Talenox platform.
We have partnered Talenox to weave insurance products such as Travel E@sy into the natural user journey of these employees. For example, an employee applying for overseas leave will be gently prompted to purchase our travel insurance plan. Results have been encouraging with a 10% conversion on Travel E@sy policies within the first 10 days.
In addition to travel insurance, we will also be working with Talenox to introduce other products such as mozzie-protection, personal accident and home contents plans.
Labour Day Gift to Appreciate Freelance Caregivers
Our digital affinity partner, Caregiver Asia, is an online aggregator of trusted on-demand health and care services. Freelance caregivers, who are experienced in specialised areas of care, work tirelessly to provide both ad-hoc and long term care for care seekers.
In conjunction with Labour Day, we have partnered Caregiver Asia to appreciate and to celebrate the achievements of these caregivers by gifting them with the GREATcare Personal Accident (Starter Plan).
This personal accident insurance plan, underwritten by Great Eastern General Insurance, is part of a suite of insurance products developed for Caregiver Asia. Caregivers will subsequently be able to purchase additional plans under the GREATcare suite of products.
Partnering with Bank OCBC NISP and YesDok to Promote Healthy Living
Bank OCBC NISP recently celebrated its 78th anniversary with a theme to encourage the young generation in Indonesia to achieve their aspirations and goals.
As its strategic partner, Great Eastern Life Indonesia participated in the event by providing a simple medical check-up for OCBC NISP employees and customers, with the objective of helping them to live healthier lives so they can achieve their aspirations and goals.
As part of our LIVE GREAT Programme, we also collaborated with YesDok to conduct blood donations and promote the YesDok App for employees of Bank OCBC NISP. During the event, employees who visited the Great Eastern booth received a healthy snack after downloading the YesDok application.
Lighting Up Lives
As part of our Great Eastern Cares programme, close to 50 Great Eastern Takaful Berhad (GETB) members brought cheer to more than 300 members of Kampung Orang Asli Sg Gabong on 13 April.
The highlight of the event was powering up five homes with solar panels to enable families to continue with their activities, especially reading and studying, when night falls. This was in addition to the 15 homes which were installed with solar panels last year.
GETB volunteers furnished the community hall with books for children of all ages, in the hope of cultivating a reading habit and to enable the children to acquire more knowledge from a young age. The exterior of the community hall was also given a fresh coat of paint.
The volunteers set up a mySalam counter to explain the benefits of the government’s free takaful protection to those who are eligible as well as demonstrated oral hygiene tips to the children.
Leaders Workshop 2019
Held on 4 and 5 April, the annual Leaders Workshop was organised to provide our corporate leaders from Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia the opportunity to come together, collaborate and discuss issues as a team. This year, we had a total attendance of 103 participants, including colleagues from QBE Indonesia.
The workshop supported and reinforced the organisation’s focus on customer-centricity. Anchored on design-thinking, leaders were able to experience what the journey of change would look like, gaining a better awareness of the potential this could bring to new innovations.
National Secondary School Actuarial Camp
In collaboration with the University of Malaya, Great Eastern Life Malaysia organised the National Secondary School Actuarial Camp for the second consecutive year. Understanding the need to educate and nurture aspiring actuaries, the four-day camp catered to budding talents from as young as high school students and provided them with valuable exposure and insights into the actuarial field through an array of industry talks, interactive games, and Q&A sessions.
Activities were mainly conducted in University of Malaya, followed by a one-day visit to Great Eastern where students met Chief Financial Officer Loke Chang Yueh in an informal forum in which he shared his journey to becoming a fully qualified actuary. Needless to say, all 156 students were inspired!
Networking with a Spin
Great Eastern Takaful Berhad’s Agency Recruitment team adopted a new approach for its Takaful Business Opportunities Sharing Session (TBOSS) in its efforts to expand its agency base.
On 6 April, the networking session was paired with a test drive at the NZ Wheels car showroom in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur. Some 100 aspiring new recruits turned up at the event. And yes, everyone wanted to test drive the latest Mercedes!
Muhammad Malkit, Senior Group Sales Manager, commented, “The number of participants who attended was very encouraging. The programme, which departed from the usual classroom-setting format, was centred on a lifestyle theme, which was well managed through an experiential platform in a relaxing atmosphere. As such, the participants were well engaged and asked many questions. It was a great success.”
LIFE Programme in Malaysia
As a LIFE company, we are committed to empowering our employees to take charge of their health and well-being at the workplace.
In Malaysia, we will be conducting the “Wholesomeness” campaign from April to June to promote mental awareness and emotional well-being, with activities such as art competitions, brain challenges, and stress talks in store to help employees learn the many ways to combat workplace stress. Additionally, the “Hustle2Muscle” campaign will run from June to November, which focuses on overall physical fitness in achieving the best that we can be.
We also recently held the 4th Red Lion League Badminton Tournament in March 2019, with the Senior Management team taking part in a fiery match prior to the Grand Finals which had everyone at the edge of their seats. The teams demonstrated great camaraderie and sportsmanship and congratulations to all those who emerged as champions!
