1nnovate 1nitiate 1gnite

2019 got off to a great start for the distribution force in Singapore. Over 2000 distribution representatives converged for the Great Kick Off at Suntec City Convention Centre in early January.

The Chairman of the organising committee welcomed the crowd and shared the rationale for the theme ‘1nnovate 1nitiate 1gnite’, which aptly reflects Great Eastern’s 111st birthday this year.

Group CEO Khor Hock Seng shared on the good business performance for 2018, which registered growth in new businesses, agency productivity and recruitment. For 1nnovate, Group CEO stressed the importance of embracing change and the need to adopt an innovative mind-set. He also emphasised the need for all to be committed and to act on that commitment for the coming year as we, moving as one, strive to bring Great Eastern to the next level.

A key focus was to 1nitiate, and in that regard, Great Eastern will continue with strong focus for continuous improvement and has invested in many exciting initiatives. One such significant initiative is Great Digital Advantage (GDA), a holistic suite of digital and performance management tools to digitally equip the distribution force to better engage with customers and to improve efficiency and productivity. GDA comprises several key pillars including, GreatAdvice, GreatPlanner, GreatPortfolio, Micro Learning and Gerica, a virtual assistant and chat bot.

Another major initiative is the upcoming new generation agency office at Paya Lebar, which is targeted to be completed in mid-2019. Group CEO also shared that yet another key initiative this year is our strong focus on key customer segments, particularly Parents with Young Kids (PYK) and the New to Workforce (NTW).

Armed with all these, it is important to 1gnite our passion as well as our commitment so that we can unleash our potential and successfully transform for greater success.

MD Regional Agency, FA and Bancassurance, Ben Tan spoke on resilience in the face of adversity and shared in greater detail on GDA, while Ryan Cheong, MD of Strategy and Transformation, spoke at great length on GreatAdvice to an enthralled audience.

MD Group Marketing, Colin Chan elaborated on our customer segment strategy and shared the plans to ramp up a customer engagement through more events, including roadshows and seminars.

The crowd was also updated on the many training opportunities in store and exciting upcoming incentive challenges.

The event ended on a high note with everyone fully motivated to do their best and to make 2019 an even greater year.

Great Leaders Kick Off 2019, Chiang Mai

The Great Leaders Kick Off (GLKO) held in Chiang Mai was an important forum to reinforce key messages and strategies, as well as provided opportunities for participants to discuss and share ideas on the various initiatives.

Key takeaways:

  • Group CEO urged agency leaders to continue to do ordinary things extraordinarily well… “Back to Basics”.
  • The company will continue to invest in building up the capabilities of the distribution force and continue to roll out initiatives in full support.
  • #GreaterWay – a 365-day systematic and structured onboarding programme for new representatives joining Great Eastern to help them kick start their career with the company anchored on building a strong foundation, enforcing discipline, developing tenacity and pursuing excellence.

During the breakout sessions, robust discussions were held on how to boost activity, sales and productivity. Speakers included Ben Tan, Jimmy Tong, Colin Chan, Patrick Kok, George Goh, Chan Keng Hong, Dr Leow Yung Khee, Audrey Tang, Alan Pang, Tan Hong Tau, Tay Tong and Tan Meng Siong.

The event concluded with a pledge to success led by Ben. The management team of Great Eastern and Agency Leaders jointly committed to work together to make 2019 a year of greater success for Great Eastern! To Ignite; To Impart; To Inspire!

New Great Eastern Logo Signage at Great Eastern Centre

All of you would have noticed by now the new Great Eastern logo signage mounted on the main façade of Great Eastern Centre facing South Bridge Road.

Measuring 2.5m high and 8.2m across, the signage, made of acrylic affixed on aluminium box, stands commandingly tall and is very visible to passers-by both in the day as well as at night when the signage is lit up with LED green energy-saving lighting.

Spreading Kindness

At Great Eastern, even as we strive to do well, we recognise the importance of creating a positive impact of the communities that we operate in… and that a little kindness goes a long way.

Great Eastern has collaborated on many occasions with the Singapore Kindness Movement (SKM), a non-profit organisation that promotes and cultivates kindness and graciousness in Singapore society.

This includes Kindness@Work and Kids@Work, as well as providing a platform for parenting expert Ms Carol Loi and members of Great Eastern senior management to share practical parenting tips.

Ms Christine Cheah, Vice President, Regional Agency and Financial Advisors and Chairperson of the Kids@Work Committee, said: “We believe in making a positive difference and in adding value to the lives around us. Being kind to one another is an important step towards building an inclusive and caring community and is an attribute we seek to inculcate in all our staff.”

Making Life Great… for Our Customers

Making Life Great (MLG), our annual corporate culture-building programme, continued to be a success on all fronts.

Based on the theme “Make Life Great For Our Customers”, the series of MLG workshops held throughout 2018 supported and reinforced the company’s focus on customer-centricity. Anchored on design-thinking, special team-based activities and experiential learning were conducted which enabled participants to learn to better empathise with customers and the importance of placing customer’s needs and experience as top priority in our daily work.

The workshops, which received good feedback from participants, will be extended to Malaysia and Indonesia in the coming months.

Celebrating Great Teamwork

Teamwork motivates unity in the workplace and promotes workplace synergy. With these, team members have a greater sense of accomplishment and are spurred to perform better.

To celebrate good teamwork, the GELI bancassurance team held a New Year dinner in Jakarta and took the opportunity to further boost the strong collaborative spirit to achieve more in 2019.

Support for Blood Donation Drive

Our Indonesia office supported the blood donation drive held recently by OCBC NISP in Jakarta. We provided healthy snacks to all donors.
