New Office at Paya Lebar Quarter

July 2019 marked a key milestone for Great Eastern as we relocated our agency office from its previous location along Changi Road to Paya Lebar Quarter (PLQ) Tower 3.

The decision to move is part of our strategic direction to expand our business presence and form three key clusters in the Central, East and West. PLQ sits at the heart of Singapore’s URA’s Master Plan to develop a progressive commercial centre between the CBD and Changi Airport to ensure the city’s sustainable future growth.

The setting up of our office in Paya Lebar Quarter will allow us to be the first among the insurers to establish presence in this prime location in the East. It is also our intent to draw younger generations to join our agency force, and the modern state-of-the-art working environment and the accessibility of the location will appeal to them.

The 125,000 sq ft office, situated on the top four floors of PLQ Tower 3, is designed to be the next Gen office – integrated, activity-based and flexible. The office features the latest technology and can accommodate about 1,400 Great Eastern financial representatives and serve over 8,000 customers every month.

In addition to working spaces for our agency force and support teams, the office also features a community hub spanning the 13th floor, designed as an immersive and engaging destination for our financial representatives and customers. This includes the first Prestige Suite, an exclusive lounge for our top financial representatives in the Prestige Partners programme to meet their clients, as well as a thematic theatre room, Digital Advantage support centre, and modern training facilities.

The first day of operations started smoothly for our Group Operations colleagues on 8 July. Our financial representatives visited the new Service Centre for their servicing needs and were impressed with the design set up and found the place refreshing and engaging.

Patrick Kok, MD of Group Operations, and HODs were also there to give their full support and engaged staff with a McDonald’s lunch. Welcome snacks were also provided at the pantry for staff to enjoy.

Launch of Prestige Partners

Great Eastern recently launched Prestige Partners, a handpicked team of 141 elite and experienced financial representatives geared to serve the generation of new affluent customers.

Prestige Partners provides this new segment of customers with unique and personalised financial solutions to protect and grow their assets and incomes. These customers will also have access to exclusive services such as being served in exclusive Prestige Suites and enjoy complimentary health screenings and medical checks carried out in premium VIP facilities. Dedicated business support managers will also be assigned to Prestige Partners to help them fast track underwriting and claims for their customers.

Financial representatives under the Prestige Partners programme will be provided with additional specialised training at the Nanyang Technological University’s Wealth Management Institute to equip them with the latest insights to better service the needs of the affluent segment. This complements a range of Prestige Series products Great Eastern has developed to cater to their protection and legacy planning needs.

In our research for trends on a key consumer segment - the new-to-workforce (NTW), we identified that NTWs are caught between saving for their future and travelling abroad to gain life experiences. In fact, an ADARA survey found that 79% of NTWs prioritise travel above any other expense.

With these findings in mind, we developed and launched the FOMO No More with the Life Travel Kit Campaign to reconcile NTWs’ desire to travel and need to save for the future. The Life Travel Kit is a bundle consisting of:

In July, customers just need to submit their funniest FOMO story to us. Five winners with the most entertaining entry will receive S$1,000 holiday credit each and 100 consolation winners can walk away with an Instax camera each.

Join Us for a Taste of Success – GEFA’s First 2019 Premier Client Group Event

Great Eastern Financial Advisers’ first Premier Client Group (PCG) event of the year – aptly titled “Join Us for a Taste of Success” – was held in June and drew an overwhelming response. With emphasis in bringing value-added and informative content and ensuring that every PCG client event caters to different needs, we invited one of our partners from AXA to speak on Luxury Home and Collectibles protection. We also brought back our well-received legacy planning specialist to share more on multi-generational wealth and legacy planning. The event concluded with positive feedback and networking.


2019 Great Eastern Women’s Run Launch

On to its 14th edition, the 2019 Great Eastern Women’s Run (GEWR) will take place on 3 November 2019 at the Singapore Sports Hub and saw a successful launch on 13 and 14 June 2019 at Guoco Tower in Tanjong Pagar, garnering close to 1,000 signups on the first day alone.

Attractive gifts were offered to the first 300 in line, including New Balance gym sack bags and My Little Pony plushies. Queues started forming as early as 8 am and hundreds of ladies headed down to the roadshow to grab their race slots at exclusive rates.

The first 50 women who registered and joined trainers Wany Misban, Natalie Dau and Roxanne Gan for a workout at the launch event were rewarded with a complimentary entry to the Run on 3 November.

This year’s GEWR will also see the introduction of the first nationwide Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) for women. The IPPT will be held on 24 August at the Singapore Sports Hub. This assessment will give all women the opportunity to understand their current fitness levels and serve as a reminder to take proactive steps to build a strong and healthy body for the long run. Complimentary access to IPPT would be given to Great Eastern female staff to remind them to take charge of their health. More details will be shared in the weeks to come.

In the lead up to the IPPT and GEWR, Great Eastern has also commissioned the three fitness trainers to curate a series of exercises aimed at strengthening the female body. They will be conducting more sessions at various locations from July.

Great Eastern Viper Challenge 2019 @ Bukit Jalil

After kicking off 2019 with the Great Eastern Viper Challenge at Sepang Circuit, Penang Second Bridge and Port Dickson, the fourth instalment for this year’s Asia’s biggest obstacle event was held on 13 July at the iconic Bukit Jalil National Stadium.

Some 8,000 fitness enthusiasts took up the challenge of completing 12 obstacles over a distance of 6km, be it as individuals or together with a team.

The excitement continued at the Great Eastern Life booth with the LIVE GREAT Obstacle, where the first 111 LIVE GREAT Card members walked away with a pair of exclusive sports gloves upon completion of the obstacle. LIVE GREAT Card members further enjoyed special privileges such as complimentary coffee at our Chillout Zone, as well as exclusive discounts at the many food trucks available!

All participants also enjoyed complimentary photo printouts to capture the many LIVE GREAT moments of the night.

ChildrenCare Raya Baking Workshop and Raya Fundraising

Through its corporate social responsibility initiative ChildrenCare, Great Eastern Life Malaysia (GELM) continued the spirit of Syawal by organising a baking workshop - termed the ‘Sunny Lebaran Baking Workshop - for almost 40 underprivileged children aged 10 to 17 from Rumah Amal Cahaya Tengku Ampuan Rahimah, Pusat Jagaan Pertubuhan Pendidikan Anak-Anak Yatim Selangor (Rumah Bakti), and Pusat Jagaan Nuri.

Aligned with the Personal Development pillar of ChildrenCare, the two-hour programme aimed at encouraging the children to explore their artistic and culinary talents through the proper craft and techniques of cookie-baking. Incorporating a mini baking competition as part of the programme, the kitchen was filled with laughter and cheer as the children demonstrated their creativity and camaraderie. They were then treated to a wholesome Raya buffet lunch and each of them received a Raya gift bag. To further the Raya cheer, GELM also made a donation of gift vouchers worth RM12,500 to five other homes registered under Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat.

In conjunction with the months of Ramadan and Syawal, GELM ChildrenCare also conducted a fundraising initiative by selling ‘Sunny Lebaran Wishes’ Raya cookies. All proceeds from every bundle of ‘Hope’ (Choco Nestum cookies), ‘Blessing’ (Seashell Peanut Butter cookies), and ‘Delight’ (Pure Butter cookies) brought festive cheer to the underprivileged children this Raya. GELM staff additionally contributed to the ChildrenCare fund by sponsoring a portion of the children’s ‘Sunny Lebaran Baking Workshop’ fees.


Mid-Year Boost

Over 1,500 financial representatives gathered together on 3 July for Mid-Year Boost 2019, the largest turnout to date. Riding on the theme from Great Kick Off - 1NNOVATE, 1NITIATE, 1GNITE - the focus of Mid-Year Boost was on 1GNITE. This year’s event was held at The Star Performing Arts Centre at Star Vista. The event kicked off with a New York themed lunch reception, followed by an opening speech from Group CEO, Mr Khor Hock Seng. He started with a performance overview and ended with a motivating message to all representatives that success can be achieved if we strive with Reason, Passion and Commitment.

Group CEO paved the way for the rest of the presentations to follow. The programme continued with presentations by Head of Customer Service, Ms Tan Jingyi and MD, Group Marketing, Mr Colin Chan, highlighting the initiatives that have been rolled out such as the move from paper-centric documentation to digital, as well as the various marketing strategies initiated with strategic direction towards digitalisation.

Our very own in-house guest speaker, Willis Lau, took to the stage next, and presented on the benefits of embracing technology in the current environment. He highlighted the importance of having the willingness to continuously upgrade one’s digital capabilities and leveraging on digitalisation to aid them in their roles as financial representatives.

The event would not be complete without MD for Regional Agency/FA and Bancassurance, Mr Ben Tan, who took the stage to introduce the new initiatives rolled out by Great Eastern to digitalise the business such as the financial storyboard, in order to better service our customers.

The event ended off with not only a motivational speech by the Head of Agency, Mr George Goh, but also a commitment and pledge to achieve the targets together for 2H 2019.

The event was a success and everyone left the venue with renewed motivation and energy for the next half of 2019!

“Precious Moment” – Celebrating our Group Operations Heroes

Late last year, Group Operations created its own Service Credo – “GREAT” (Genuine, Reliable, Empowered, Accurate & Tailored) – with the objective to create and deliver excellent customer service. As part of cultivating this excellent customer service mindset, an initiative was implemented to recognise and motivate our behind-the-scenes heroes.

Since the start of this year, there has been a monthly series of “Precious Moment” broadcast of our heroes who had delivered exemplary service and received compliments or words of appreciation from both internal colleagues and external customers.

A truly “Precious Moment” picture featuring some of our winners and we shall continue to have more winners throughout the rest of the year!

Great Connections

Great Connections: Lunch with Leaders continued its popular run in June 2019. Organised in Singapore as a platform for staff to engage with and learn from our senior management team, staff interacted with Ben Tan, Managing Director, Regional Agency / FA / Bancassurance, over lunch and sharing on various corporate and personal topics during the session.

From feedback received after the session, 70% of respondents felt that the session was insightful and inspires them to attend another session. The majority will also recommend these sessions to their colleagues!

Hari Raya Celebration

Great Eastern Malaysia hosted their annual Hari Raya celebration for all three entities in full style this year! With the theme of modern batik, our Malaysian colleagues in Life, General, and Takaful dressed to impress on this day of fun and laughter.

Dato Koh Yaw Hui commenced the event by sharing highlights and company updates for the first half of 2019, before letting way for a poetry recitation, traditional performances, lucky draws, a game quiz, and the very first Raya Fashion Show Competition! Representatives from each department were given a length of batik to style and walk the runway, with the most creative outfits standing a chance to win cash vouchers.

Celebrations continued as the respective CEOs made their rounds distributing Hari Raya money packets for all staff. Our colleagues at Great Eastern Life even held performances to showcase to Dato Koh as he visited each department, all adorned with festive ornaments and decorations. It was indeed a day filled with great company and great laughter!

GELI Organises “Clean Eating” Event for Bank OCBC NISP Employees

Great Eastern Life Indonesia (GELI) held a Live Great Event for employees of Bank OCBC NISP Jakarta on 19 June with the theme "Clean Eating" in collaboration with Yummy Corp, one of GELI’s merchant partners as a provider of healthy catering services. The event presented Chef Hendrik Lie as a speaker while providing a demonstration of healthy food making.

Chef Hendrik Lie explained several ways to start clean eating, including how to store food, choosing low-fat and calorie foods, regulating small amounts of food intake 5-6 times a day to keep one’s blood sugar stable, consuming the best protein from chicken, fish, eggs and lean meat and avoiding sweet foods such as bread and cakes, and sugared drinks, etc. He was then assisted by several employees in making tuna sandwiches.

At the end of the event, Chef Hendrik Lie explained the benefits of clean eating, such as the reduction of fat levels in the body and overall weight, increase of energy and improvement of one’s sleep quality and condition of skin and hair.


Partnership with Doctor Anywhere

Great Eastern and healthtech company Doctor Anywhere have partnered to spearhead and launch a spectrum of integrated health and wellness tech services to bolster healthcare coverage and provide greater convenience for Great Eastern’s customers. The first of these will be an on-demand video consultation service with Singapore-registered doctors.

Effective 1 August, the first phase will provide about 40,000 insured members covered under Great Eastern’s Live Great group insurance programmes access to on-demand video consultations through Great Eastern’s Live Great Corporate mobile app. The service will be progressively rolled out to more corporate clients over the next 6 months.

After registering through the app, customers can opt to consult a doctor within minutes or schedule an appointment at a later time or date. Patients requiring medication have the option to self-collect from any of the Doctor Anywhere clinics or have their medication delivered to them within three hours of their consultation. They will also have easy access of their prescription details and electronic medical certificates (e-MCs) within the app.

This on-demand remote based consultation service enables 24/7 connectivity and is well suited for acute and common conditions such as fever, cough and flu.  For conditions that would require a more thorough diagnosis, patients will be referred to a clinic for a physical consultation, or a specialist as required.

Both companies will also leverage on each other’s platforms to provide more concrete wellness coverage to customers. These include GETGREAT and UPGREAT – Great Eastern’s health and wellness and rewards digital platforms – and Doctor Anywhere’s wellness Marketplace, its in-app e-commerce platform.

In conjunction with the partnership, GETGREAT and UPGREAT organised a wellness event on 24 July 2019 from 11am to 3pm at the Podium of Great Eastern Centre.

The event saw more than 600 participants who were highly engaged with the onsite activities such as:

  • 30-Seconds Stepper Board Challenge where we set a collective target of 10,000 steps and every participant helped to play a part in contributing to the target. A total of 376 participants took part and achieved a collective 24,987 steps! Each participant received a wellness goodie bag (worth more than S$100) and up to 500 UPGREAT Points.
  • Wellness Talk hosted by Doctor Anywhere’s partnering speakers from Healing Hands Chiropractor and PULSE TCM, which received an overwhelming response with more than 140 participants turning up during the lunchtime talk.
  • Doctor Anywhere and 5 of their Marketplace Partners jointed us at the event to provide complimentary activities such as TCM consultations, spine checks, eye examinations and healthy F&B samplings. Qoo10 – One Year On

The Great Eastern Singapore e-store on Qoo10 was first launched in July 2018 with GREAT MozzieSafe, a medical plan that pays daily cash for hospitalisation due to dengue and other common mosquito-borne diseases. Several other products such as travel and personal accident plans were also shared with Qoo10 users in the last 12 months.

This month, three new general insurance products are introduced on our Qoo10 e-store; HomeGR8 Essential, HomeGR8 Plus and PA Supreme. With the help from our colleagues and support from our partners at Qoo10, users can now enjoy the same seamless policy purchase experience with Great Eastern just as any customer would. Users are also given the option to make payment via Qoo10 which will allow them to earn Q-points.

Our partnership with Qoo10 also extended beyond Singapore with the recent launch of the Great Eastern Life Indonesia’s e-store!

The first product, GREAT Protection Guard, is a personal accident plan underwritten by PT Great Eastern Life Indonesia which provides a lump sum pay-out of IDR 50,000,000 in the event of accidental death.

We launched our first mobile screen protection plan this month with the GREAT Screen Cover! The plan, underwritten by Great Eastern General Insurance, offers to reimburse the cost of replacement and workmanship for cracked mobile screens.

GREAT Screen Cover is currently available only to Samsung Galaxy A80 and A70 mobile users with a new handset purchased in Singapore.

As part of the promotional plans for its launch of the new Galaxy A-Series phones, Samsung is giving away the GREAT Screen Cover plan for every purchase of the Galaxy A80 or A70 from Samsung Experience Stores and appointed distributors on a while stock last basis.

The plan is also available for purchase on the Great Eastern e-store on Samsung Pay to all Galaxy A80 mobile users* with a new handset purchased in Singapore.

We are excited to share about our new partnership with Suntec Rewards!

Suntec City Mall is one of Singapore’s largest malls in the heart of the bustling Marina Bay precinct with more than 380 retail establishments. The mall’s digital loyalty programme, Suntec Rewards, allow shoppers to enjoy deals and discounts, gain access to member-only events and also accumulate reward points as they shop.
