Bancassurance Appreciation Nite
The Bancassurance Appreciation Nite is an annual event where Great Eastern recognises and celebrates the achievements of our top bancassurance producers in 2018 from OCBC Bank.
Themed “Crowning the Gems”, the event was held at a major hotel and had a great turnout of 420 guests, including Samuel Tsien, Group CEO of OCBC Bank, and Chin Wei Hong, Chief Operating Officer.
An exciting LED drone opening act kicked off the night’s programme and drew the rapt attention of the crowd. In his speech, our Group CEO Khor Hock Seng thanked OCBC top management for sharing our vision to continuously push ourselves to do better for our customers and also for their unwavering support and valued guidance.
Both organisations enjoy a special and synergistic relationship which is unique and we must continue to harness this, as well as our many strengths, to our advantage as we propel our business forward.
Great Eastern will continue to collaborate closely with OCBC and ramp up our efforts to design and deliver more innovative and compelling product solutions for our customers.
Mr Khor ended his speech with a rallying call -- “Let’s better our best!”
The presentation of awards drew loud cheers and enthusiastic applause as top performers went onstage to receive their awards.
In a surprise appearance, our Bancassurance Business Development team performed an inspirational fight song medley specially put together for this event, energising everyone in the ballroom to join in to a foot stomping “爱拼才会赢” encore. The night came to a great conclusion with a resounding “Yum Seng” from the crowd.
Digital Affinity Partnerships
Building digital affinity partnerships is an integral part of our digital transformation strategy.
In March, we welcomed new partners -- Singtel, WeChat and Smart Control – as well as worked with Samsung to engage new customer segments and bring tailored insurance solutions and services to them more conveniently and seamlessly.
Exclusive Insurance Partner for Singtel’s PVP Esports Community Leagues
We signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Singtel as the exclusive partner from the insurance sector to support Singtel’s PVP Community Leagues for the year and jointly engage the local gaming community to develop their passion for esports.
We have been an active supporter of traditional sports and this is our first foray into esports, which is poised to enter the mainstream. The popularity of esports has grown tremendously and will be officially introduced as a medal event at the Southeast Asian Games in 2019.
Commented Ryan Cheong, Managing Director of Digital for Business, “Great Eastern is very excited to team up with Singtel, Asia's leading communications group, to engage the local community and youths in their passion for esports. Like traditional sports, esports champions values such as discipline, perseverance and hard work. We hope that with the engagement through esports, we would have a better appreciation of this emerging customer segment.”
Singtel’s PVP Community comprises of two leagues: PVP Campus, which is open to all tertiary students, and PVP Corporate, which targets working professionals. Both leagues will culminate in a finale PVP Carnival at the end of the year. There will also be a Great Eastern-branded community league so keep a lookout for more details!

Great Eastern Tops Customer Satisfaction Index of Singapore for Life Insurance
Good news must share!
At the latest Customer Satisfaction Index of Singapore (CSISG) 2018 results announced on 27 March 2019, Great Eastern scored 75.0, the highest in the Life Insurance sub-sector, topping our major competitors. In the Health Insurance sub-sector, we improved our score to 72.1.
CSISG is a national barometer and measure of customer satisfaction in the Singapore economy jointly developed by the Institute of Service Excellence (ISE) at SMU and the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA). It is an objective and comprehensive assessment of service levels.
These CSISG results were derived from face-to-face interviews with a pool of Great Eastern policyholders for each sub-sector. Respondents were surveyed between October 2018 and January 2019.
We can all take pride that we have contributed to Great Eastern’s great scores! Moving together as one, let us continue to put our customers at the heart of what we do each day, every day.

IFPAS RUN 2019
The Insurance and Financial Practitioners Association of Singapore (IFPAS) held its inaugural IFPAS RUN on 17 March at Marina Barrage as part of its efforts to drive unity and camaraderie among the industry practitioners as we strive towards a common goal to raise professionalism and excellence in the business.
The Run was also part of IFPAS’ corporate social responsibility programme. All proceeds will be channelled to the IFPAS Love Fund which supports needy children and people with disabilities.
Great Eastern is a member of IFPAS and one of the sponsors for the event. Guest-of Honour was Chan Chun Seng, Minister for Trade and Industry. Great Eastern was represented by Erik Yeo, Lead of Regional Agency and FA, who carried the Great Eastern flag and led a team of Great Eastern runners during the flag off.
A total of 436 participants from both our agency force and corporate staff participated in the Run, one of the largest contingents among the insurers participating.
Paper Cutting Workshop for Underprivileged Children
As part of its ChildrenCare programme, GELM organised a paper cutting workshop for close to 100 underprivileged children from BRDB Rotary Children’s Residence, Yayasan Sunbeams and Praise Emmanuel Children’s Home.
The workshop provided the young guests with the opportunity to discover their creative skills by creating lanterns.
The festivity continued with a Lion and Dragon performance, followed by a sumptuous buffet dinner treat. There were smiles all around from the children as they each received goodie bags from Sunny Lion.
GELM also made additional donations of gift vouchers amounting to RM12,500 to other homes registered under the Social Welfare Department of Malaysia.
Corporate MA Hackathon
A programme specifically designed for graduates, the Corporate Management Associate (MA) Programme helps graduates build a strong foundation to achieve their career goals and prepare them for success in a division-specific role within Great Eastern.
This year’s programme featured a different structure and application process. Applicants were invited to record a video interview as well as attend a specially tailored MA Hackathon as part of the application process.
The inaugural MA Hackathon was a great success. Thirty-three participants analysed seven problem statements for six divisions, giving them an opportunity to experience Design Thinking and Customer-Centricity – the importance of placing customer’s needs and experience as top priority in our daily work.
Great Connections: Lunch with Leaders which commenced in September 2018 continued its popular run. Organised in Singapore as a platform for staff to engage with and learn from our senior management team, staff interacted with Ronnie Tan, Group Chief Financial Officer, and Wee Ai Ning, Group Chief Investment Officer, over lunch and sharing on various corporate and personal topics during their respective Great Connections sessions.
As a LIFE company, the well-being of our employees is a priority. Through our LIFE programme, we empower, motivate and incentivise our employees to take charge of their health and wellness. Throughout the year, a series of health-focused workshops and activities are organised at company and department levels to spur employees on their journey to better health.
The LIFE Programme kicked off this year with the Brisk Walking Challenge which took place over four sessions at our various office locations. Over 800 colleagues participated in the Challenge and spurred one another on to complete the 5-km brisk walk within an hour.
