Dr Kan is a Senior Consultant Surgeon and he brings along with him a wealth of experience spanning over 23 years.
His scope of practice extends from simple conditions such as skin lumps, haemorrhoids and hernias to complex keyhole surgery for colon, oesophageal, stomach, pancreatic and liver cancers. Other conditions such as appendicitis, gall stone disease, gastritis, abdominal bloating, rectal bleeding or a change in bowel habit is part of his daily practice. He provides a service for early screening for cancers with endoscopy (gastroscopy & colonoscopy).
His expertise lies in the field of MINIMALLY INVASIVE SURGERY (Keyhole), which he uses to operate on cancers of the gastrointestinal tract. He is one of a few surgeons in this region who specialise in this keyhole approach for stomach and oesophageal cancers. His other field of interest is bariatric/metabolic surgery for weight loss in those patients who are overweight and amy have associated medical conditions such as diabetes.
He devoted part of his career on several international renowned units focusing on Minimally Invasive Surgery – The National Cancer Centre and The Cancer Institute (Tokyo, JAPAN), Prince of Wales Chinese University Hospital (HONG KONG) and Princess Alexandra Hospital (Brisbane, AUSTRALIA).
He is a trainer on surgical workshops throughout the region and has presented numerous talks throughout the world (USA, UK, France, India, Singapore, Australia, Philippines, Vietnam and Thailand). He serves as a journal reviewer for several international journals and is an ATLS instructor.
