Benefits

1. What is Dengue Care?

Dengue Care is a complimentary hospitalisation cover specifically for dengue fever, which provides 12 months of coverage for Eligible Members that have purchased a regular premium Life, Health or Personal Accident policy (“Eligible Policy”) from Great Eastern within the campaign period. Please refer to the list of the Eligible Policies.

2. Is the Dengue Care coverage free?

Yes, the Dengue Care is free for Eligible Members that have purchased an Eligible Policy within the campaign period. Please refer to the terms and conditions of the Dengue Care campaign.

3. Who is an Eligible Member?

Eligible Member shall refer to a natural person; who is:-

(a) between 17 and 80 age next birthday at the effective date of the Dengue Care coverage;

(b) a Singaporean or Singapore Resident with a valid National Registration Identification Card, employment pass (EP holders / S Pass holders / Work Permit holder) or dependant’s pass;

(c) residing in Singapore; and

(d) a policyholder of an Eligible Policy.

4. What are the benefits of Dengue Care?

Dengue Care provides the Eligible Member and his immediate family members (collectively referred to as Life Insureds) with lump sum Hospitalisation Benefit and Daily Hospital Cash Benefit.

    Hospitalisation Benefit

    A lump sum benefit will be paid out if the Life Insured is diagnosed and hospitalised solely due to dengue fever

    S$1,000 per Period of Insurance S$500 per Period of Insurance

    S$500 per Child per period of Insurance

    Daily Hospital Cash Benefit

    A daily benefit paid for each day the Life Insured is hospitalised solely due to dengue fever, for up to a maximum of 10 consecutive days per Period of Insurance

5. What is dengue fever?

Dengue fever refers to the unequivocal, final and confirmed diagnosis by a Registered Medical Practitioner in accordance with prevailing clinical guidelines published by Ministry of Health, where available, and supported by acceptable clinical, radiological, histological and laboratory evidence.

6. Who are the Life Insureds under Dengue Care?

(a) Eligible Member;

(b) Eligible Spouse i.e. the legal spouse of the Eligible Member who is not separated from the Eligible Member, who is between 17 and 80 Age Next Birthday and is residing in Singapore; and

(c) Eligible Child(ren) i.e. the biological or step child(ren) from a legal marriage or legally adopted child(ren) of the Eligible Member, who is between 2 weeks old and 16 Age Next Birthday and is residing in Singapore. 

7. What is the coverage period?

The coverage period is 12 months, starting from the issue date of the first Eligible Policy.

8. Can the Dengue Care coverage be extended for longer than 12 months?

No, the Dengue Care coverage is only valid for 12 months from the issue date of the first Eligible Policy.

9. Can a Life Insured claim more than once for each of the benefit under the Dengue Care?

No, each Life Insured shall only be entitled to claim once for each benefit under the Dengue Care.

10. Is there any waiting period before the Life Insured can make a claim?

Yes, there is a waiting period of 10 days, from the issue date of the first Eligible Policy.

11. When will the Life Insured not be able to claim for the Dengue Care?

The Life Insured will not be able to claim under Dengue Care if the hospitalisation is due to:

(a) a pre-existing condition (including dengue fever);

(b) dengue fever which occurs within the waiting period; or

(c) dengue fever which occurs after the waiting period, but resulting from or relating to any medical treatment(s), diagnosis, consultation(s) or investigation(s) of the Life Insured by a Registered Medical Practitioner during the waiting period.

12. What is a pre-existing condition?

Pre-existing condition refers to any condition, illness, disease, disability, including dengue fever or defect for which:

(a) the Life Insured has sought medical advice, been investigated, diagnosed, hospitalised, received medical treatment, undergone surgical operation, or been prescribed drugs at any time prior to the effective date of the cover; or

(b) signs and symptoms manifested prior to the effective date of the cover, which would have caused a prudent person to seek medical advice or counselling, undergo investigation or diagnostic tests, receive medical treatment, undergo surgery, be hospitalised, or be prescribed drugs.

Duplication of Coverage

13. What happens if the Eligible Member purchased more than 1 Eligible Policy within the campaign period?

The Eligible Member will only be covered for Dengue Care under the first Eligible Policy issued by Great Eastern.

14. If the Eligible Member purchased more than 1 Eligible Policy within the campaign period, how does he know when is the effective date of his Dengue Care coverage?

The effective date of his Dengue Care coverage will follow the issue date of the first Eligible Policy.

15. If both the Eligible Member and his spouse purchased an Eligible Policy within the campaign period:

(a) Will the Eligible Member be entitled to make a claim under Dengue Care, as both an Eligible Member as well as an Eligible Spouse?

No, the Eligible Member shall only be entitled to make 1 claim per benefit under Dengue Care during the coverage period. Great Eastern shall pay out on the cover with the highest benefit.

(b) Will the Eligible Member's children be entitled to make more than 1 claim as Eligible Child(ren)?

No, each child shall only be entitled to make 1 claim per benefit under Dengue Care during the coverage period. Great Eastern shall pay out on the cover issued earlier.

Termination

16. Under what circumstances will the Life Insured’s Dengue Care coverage be terminated?

Dengue Care coverage of any Life Insured shall terminate automatically on the earliest of the following events:

(a) the end of the 12-month coverage period;

(b) the Life Insured dies;

(c) Great Eastern admits claims for both Hospitalisation Benefit and Daily Hospital Cash Benefit in respect of the Life Insured;

(d) the Eligible Member cancels the Eligible Policy within the Free Look Period; or

(e) the Life Insured and/or Policyholder is/becomes a prohibited person.

Claims

17. How can a claim be filed under Dengue Care?

The Claimant will need to submit the completed claim form to Great Eastern. The claim form can be downloaded here.

18. What documents should be provided for a claim under Dengue Care?

Claimant will need to provide the following:

(a) claim form as requested by Great Eastern. The claim form can be downloaded here

(b) proof of Life Insured’s identity and age;

(c) proof of relationship status (only for claims for Eligible Spouse or Eligible Child(ren));

(d) proof of admission (A copy of hospital discharge summary and a copy of final summary hospital tax invoices); and

(e) proof of coverage (A copy of Certificate of Insurance (COI), if available). The COI can be downloaded here

19. What documents could be used as proof of relationship with the Eligible Member?

Marriage certificate for a claim for Eligible Spouse and birth certificate or certificate of adoption for a claim for Eligible Child(ren) may be used.
