MediShield Life changes from 1 March 2021

From 1 March 2021, MediShield Life (MSHL) benefits will be enhanced to ensure that the scheme continues to provide adequate and meaningful protection to Singaporeans. Its premiums will be adjusted in tandem to support the rising number of claims and payouts as well as the benefit changes. These enhancements will also help ensure that MediShield Life remains sustainable in the coming years.

To help cushion the impact for the premium adjustments in the first two years, a one time COVID 19 Subsidy for MSHL premiums will be introduced by the Government. For Singapore Citizens, 70% of the net increase in premiums in the first year will be subsidised , followed by 30% in the second year. Taken together with the existing premium support measures, the net premium increases for all Singapore Citizens will be kept to no more than about 10% in the first year.

For our Integrated Shield Plan customers, the premiums will be adjusted under the MediShield Life component from 1 March 2021. You can refer here for the summary of changes and premium adjustment.

You can refer to the Ministry of Health announcement for full details on the changes.

Enhancements to GREAT TotalCare

In March 2018, the Ministry of Health (MOH) announced that all supplementary plans to an Integrated Shield Plan (IP) issued from 1 April 2019 will need to incorporate a co-payment of at least 5%. This is to encourage prudent provision and consumption of healthcare services by both healthcare providers and policyholders. As such, we are transitioning all existing IP supplementary plans to a co-payment structure from renewals commencing 1 April 2021.

In addition, we will be introducing Claims-Adjusted Pricing (CAP) framework to our GREAT TotalCare (Elite-P) and (Classic-P) plans. This is an equitable and sustainable framework where your renewal premiums will be determined by your choice of healthcare treatment option (Private vs Restructured Hospitals) and the amounts paid by us for the claims. Customers will be rewarded with premium savings when they lead a healthy lifestyle and continue to be prudent in the use of healthcare services.
