CELEBRATE GREAT

Celebrate GREAT on our 110th Anniversary!

Great Eastern marked our 110th anniversary on 26 August. From humble beginnings of only 15 staff, we are now a market leader and an established brand in Singapore and Malaysia.

To celebrate the people who have made Great Eastern what we are today, a slew of exciting events and initiatives were organised across the Group. Highlights included a #CelebrateGreatColleagues contest where colleagues across the markets shared their memorable moments with fellow colleagues.

SINGAPORE

Celebrations began at the start of August with the GETGREAT GE110 Birthday Corporate Team Challenge. Colleagues were encouraged to form teams of five to clock a total of 1 million steps together. In all, we had 11 teams who succeeded in this challenge. Congratulations to the winning teams!

We were also in for many special treats this month, including Live Great Friday deals ranging from complimentary bubble tea to ice cream and even massagers. More sweet treats followed with a $110 policy premium voucher presented to all staff through UPGREAT.

This year’s celebration rounded off with a cake-cutting session at the atrium, a Live Great photo booth and complimentary fruit juice, further topped off with a cupcake distribution by Management to respective team members to show appreciation for their good efforts and support.

MALAYSIA

A joint anniversary celebration was organised for staff from GELM, GEGM and GETB.

In addition to fun activities, staff also stood the chance to win 110 great prizes, including iPhone X and Samsung S9. Touch n’ Go cards worth RM110 each were also distributed to every staff.

Local celebrity Dennis Yin hosted the celebrations as the crowd enjoyed special performances by international pop duo Fuying & Sam and Malaysian artist Cik Manggis. To pump up the energy, the celebrities along with all three CEOs led the crowd in the #CelebrateGreat mass dance!

We also leveraged the occasion to give back to the community through a ChildrenCare Raffle Draw where tickets were sold at RM11 each for the chance to win 110 exclusive prizes. Funds raised were channelled to our ChildrenCare fund.

Staff enjoyed delicious Nasi Tumpeng and customised “110th” cookies and also rallied to donate IDR 14,750,000 to the Lombok earthquake victims. A health seminar was conducted and staff received complimentary influenza vaccines.

CELEBRATE INNOVATION

GreatAdvice at Your Fingertips

Financial planners play an extremely important role in helping customers fulfil their dreams and aspirations through a properly structured financial plan. But the challenge is how we can make the advisory process a fuss-free and engaging one for them.

Introducing GreatAdvice, our new and exciting financial planning tool developed with 3 ‘E’s in mind– Easy to use, Engaging and Empowering.

GreatAdvice boasts a clean and user-friendly interface which presents the relevant information in a manner that is simple, engaging and interactive.

Instead of a form-filling exercise by the financial planner, a Life Storyboard is co-created together with the customer, enabling greater engagement at a pace that is comfortable to him or her. Through their Life Storyboard, customers are able to make informed decisions regarding their protection and financial needs .

GreatAdvice will be officially launched in January 2019. Currently in its soft-launch phase, GreatAdvice has already received positive responses:

“I enjoy the interactive aspect of the tool through its avatars and storyline style of information collection,” said Senior Financial Consultant Enoch Lin. “GreatAdvice provides me with an interesting talking point to learn more about the customer’s concerns and aspiration.

“I also love how it allows me to store information on clients in the form of stories – which factors in things like their goals, dreams and history – instead of having them reflected as just basic data like their name, date of birth of gender.”

One of our customers, Jack Tan, had the opportunity to try out GreatAdvice and he was also impressed with the experience.

“The biggest satisfaction for me is that it is paperless, and everything can be done at our fingertips,” said Tan. “There is greater participation and interaction so I feel more involved in the process.”

Keeping Fit the Fun Way with GETGREAT

Our inaugural Geared to GETGREAT Digital Walkathon in August got off to a successful start, with team 2Fit2QuitBabes emerging the winners of the challenge. As a reward for their efforts, each member took home a brand-new Samsung Galaxy S9.

For the second edition of the GETGREAT Digital Walkathon challenge, we turned things up a notch by inviting both national footballer Irfan Fandi and his father, Singapore footballing legend Fandi Ahmad, to join us for an exclusive morning workout session with several lucky fans on the morning of 2 September.

Held at the Geylang Field, the fun-filled one-hour session - which was jointly organised with Samsung - saw Irfan and Fandi lead the participants in a series of exercises and football training drills, before culminating in a small-sided game.

This event was the perfect way to herald September’s exciting GETGREAT Digital Walkathon challenge, where the winning team will get to go on a 4D/3N holiday to Seoul, South Korea.

Apart from the GETGREAT Digital Walkathon challenge, another exciting digital initiative also generated public interest.

Throughout the month of September, AI-powered wellness coach GERI went outdoors to four locations around Singapore to engage the community in the areas of health and fitness.

Using interactive digital outdoor play panels, GERI was strategically placed at high-traffic locations, where she had the opportunity to meet like-minded individuals and start wellness-centric conversations with them and share health and wellness tips.

GERI is a key unique feature of GETGREAT, our wellness platform to help users achieve their fitness and wellness goals. With GERI, GETGREAT users are granted access to round-the-clock advice on matters of health and wellness, enabling them to stay focused on completing their fitness challenges.

Be sure to download GETGREAT if you have not done so already and embark on a journey of health and wellness today!

CELEBRATE OUR BRAND

110th Anniversary Brand Campaigns in Singapore and Malaysia

In conjunction with our 110th anniversary celebrations, the Great Eastern brand was brought closer to the communities in Singapore and Malaysia through our integrated campaigns.

In Singapore, we started Great Eastern 110 birthday celebration in April with a series of print advertisements and advertising billboards and digital mediums celebrating our strong heritage and the people who made Great Eastern great!

For the second wave of our campaign, we launched our brand videos nationwide on advertising billboards, social media and digital. The same messaging was carried through in our office premises, customer service centre and agency offices as well. There are plans to screen our brand videos in cinemas towards the end of the year.

In Malaysia, we ran a series of print advertisements and advertising billboards to publicise our 110th anniversary, and also launched a digital campaign to start a dance movement where the public was encouraged to share their own #CelebrateGreat dance videos.

The workspace at Menara Great Eastern was also given a fresh new look with colourful banners, wall displays and lift stickers within the building that carried messages highlighting our shared journey and achievements.

To celebrate with our customers in Singapore and Malaysia, we launched several products -- GREAT TripleCare MoneyBack Special, GREAT220, GREAT Personal Protector and GREAT 110 Legacy respectively.

Great Eastern Women's Run 2018

In celebration of our 110th anniversary, this year’s Great Eastern Women’s Run (GEWR) returns with an even bigger bang.

To be held on Sunday, 14 October, GEWR will feature a new scenic route that will finish for the first time at the iconic National Stadium, where participants can look forward to a slew of fun, post-run activities.

To help first-time participants ease into their fitness journey, our #RunToLiveGreat programme kicked off a 10-week customised training plan to guide runners and track their progress leading up to race day.

#RunToLiveGreat workouts were led by a panel of fitness and wellness specialists, such as Asian CrossFit champion Natalie Dau, physiotherapist Jenny Huang, former elite triathlete Ben Pulham, and celebrity fitness instructor Liv Lo. Runners participated in activities such as a HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training) workout, a physio and conditioning workshop, a run clinic, and a yoga session.

More than 300 applications were received from which 45 participants were selected to be part of the programme.

Among them is 48-year-old Irene Lee, who is currently battling stage three ovarian cancer and undergoing chemotherapy. Determined to live life to the fullest, Ms Lee decided to join GEWR to inspire others to look after their own health and not to let illness rule their lives. Her ultimate goal is to one day smash the 10km-run, starting with 5km this year.

Madam Teo Yok Wan, 68, was diagnosed with high blood pressure and high cholesterol in 2013 when she decided to do something about it by joining GEWR's Run to Live Great programme. She was never a runner before but with the encouragement of her daughter, she started brisk-walking about 3km. That very year, she signed up for her first-ever half-marathon at GEWR and managed to complete it in 3 hours.

Due to the trainings, her blood pressure and cholesterol levels returned to normal too. She is now hooked to running and has since taken part in full marathons even. She is also taking part in the half-marathon again this year.

Quek Qiuhui’s fitness journey started only in 2017, where she successfully lost 17kg and credits GEWR as the first step to overcoming her obesity. In a year, the 37-year-old managed to trim her weight from 79kg to 62kg where she learnt to control her diet and started an exercise regime at the Run to Live Great programme. She began with only being able to last 30 minutes of cardio to exercising six days a week now.

CELEBRATE SUCCESS

Partnership with Gluu

Gluu, the world’s first peer-to-peer marketplace for mobile data, aims to connect users who have insufficient mobile data with others who can spare them some of their own.

Currently in its beta launch in Singapore, Gluu’s premise is simple: Users with unutilised mobile data (Givers) can provide it to those who are in need of more mobile data (Receivers), and earn Glits - Gluu’s platform currency - in return. Glits can be used to purchase mobile data or exchange for products and services via the Gluu store.

To help new users get started in Singapore, Great Eastern has partnered Gluu to offer Glits to those who sign up during the promotional launch period. Mr Ryan Cheong, Managing Director for Strategy and Transformation said, “Gluu is a ground-breaking shared economy model for mobile data which makes connectivity accessible and creates value for the community. Great Eastern is excited about how Gluu will transform the way people stay connected and we are happy to support their launch in Singapore.”

SIAS 19th Investors' Choice Awards

Great Eastern was recently awarded runner-up for the Most Transparent Company in the Finance Category at the SIAS 19th Investors' Choice Awards.

Organised by the Securities Investors Association Singapore (SIAS), the award honours organisations for excellence in transparency standards and corporate governance practices.

Companies were judged in areas such as transparency and disclosure, and accountability and audit, based on a qualitative scorecard developed by the Centre for Governance, Institutions and Organisations at the National University of Singapore and a quantitative screening of analyst ratings compiled by Thomson Reuters, including company earnings, fundamentals, relative evaluations and risks, among other factors.

In the final round of judging, the Awards Selection Committee reviewed factors such as the quality of annual reports, companies’ disclosure of interested person transactions, timelines of release of results and quality of corporate websites.

This award is a testament to the rigorous standards of corporate governance and transparency that we uphold at Great Eastern and is made possible with the guidance of our Board and Management and the strong support from our staff and agency force.
