Make a personal accident claim

An accident generally means an event that results in a sudden and unforeseen injury that you could not have avoided.  Your injury cannot be related to any illness or disease, or any other cause.

If you want to make a follow-up claim for the same accident, skip to Submitting a follow-up claim for the same accident.

Claim coverage

Specific benefits and coverage limits vary by plans. Please check your plan type and policy coverage for more details. Depending on your plan, you may be able to claim for:

  • Reimbursement for medical bills and hospital stays due to:

Accidents or

Selected sicknesses such as dengue fever; Hand, Foot and Mouth Disease; and food poisoning

  • Reimbursement for Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) treatments, if your TCM practitioner is registered with the Ministry of Health of Singapore
  • Weekly payouts while you are unable to fully/partially perform your work duties
  • Lump sum payout in the event of permanent disablement (e.g. total permanent disability, loss of use of limbs,
    etc.)
  • In the event of death, the payout may be paid to a nominated beneficiary, assignee or a trustee of the policy, as the case may be.  Otherwise, it will be paid to your legal representative or a Proper Claimant (as defined under Section 150(12) of the Insurance Act).
1. 1st claim
Make your 1st claim early. Some plans require you to notify us within 28 days of an accident, while others may allow up to 90 days.
2. Follow-up claims
Your plan coverage includes any eligible follow-up expenses incurred within 365 days of the accident

1. Submitting a claim

a. Gather your documents

Include these documents in your claim submission:

 

Form Purpose
Claimant's Statement To be completed with details of your claim. This document is not required if you submit your claim on the Great Eastern app.
Doctor’s Statement

Required only if:

  • Your claim is more than S$1,500
  • Your claim is less than or equal to S$1,500 but you are unable to provide supporting documents indicating:

a. Cause of hospitalisation, or

b. Disability and period of disability

  • You are making a disability claim, regardless of claim amount

You will also need to submit the following documents:

For medical expenses

  • Final hospital or medical bills
  • Supporting documents stating the diagnosis and cause of injury/sickness
  • Inpatient discharge summary (if there was hospitalisation)

For TCM treatment

1. Detailed breakdown of charges

2. TCM physician’s signature with name and registration number and/or clinic stamp

3. Diagnosis, date of accident, cause of injury, and injured body part

For disability

For claims for weekly payoutswhile you are unable to fully/partially perform your work duties.

For permanent disablement

  • All available laboratory and test results
  • Police report or newspaper clipping (if available)

For total permanent disability

For death

If you wish to receive payment via direct credit, provide a copy of your bank statement stating the account number and account holder's name

  • For faster payout, link your NRIC/FIN to your PayNow account using your banking app instead

Include these documents in your claimsubmission:

For medical expenses

  • Final hospital or medical bills
  • Supporting documents stating the diagnosis and cause of injury/sickness
  • Inpatient discharge summary (if there was hospitalisation)

For TCM treatment

1. Detailed breakdown of charges

For disability

For claims for weekly payoutswhile you are unable to fully/partially perform your work duties.

  • Medical certificates
  • Supporting documents stating the diagnosis and cause of injury/sickness
  • Doctor’s Statement (if it has been more than 4 weeks since you last provided one)

If the documents are insufficient for our processing or the cumulative claim amount exceeds S$1,500, you will need to submit a Doctor's Statement.

Tips for submitting documents successfully

  • Digital copies preferred: Retrieve the PDF copy if your clinic had provided one or download your bills from the HealthHub app if you had visited a restructured hospital or polyclinic.
  • Clear photos get processed faster: View our guide for tips on taking good photos of medical bills and some examples for reference.

b. Submit via the following channels

Our Great Eastern app offers a fuss-free way for you to submit your claims quickly, and allows you to select which plan you wish to make a claim under.  If, for some reason, you are unable to select your policy during claim submission, please let us know via email along with your claim details and the required documents.

Alternatively, you can submit a claim via your Financial Representative, who can also help follow up on your specific needs.

2. Tracking claim progress

a. Receiving updates on the claim

We will send you an SMS after your claim has been successfully registered. You can check on the progress of the claims assessment on the Great Eastern App.

b. Providing additional information

If we require further details to process the claim, we will contact you via email or mail.

c. Getting notified when a claim is approved

We will send you an SMS you once we have completed the claim assessment.

A letter with a breakdown of the claim reimbursement, including information about the final payout and a detailed breakdown of the claim outcome will be available on the Great Eastern App within 2 working days.

3. Getting claim payout

If you are seeking reimbursement for medical expenses, you can expect to receive it via the following methodsdepending on how you made payment at the hospital or clinic.

If you are making a claim for disability or disablement, the payout will be made to your NRIC/FIN ID-linked PayNow account*.

For death claims, depending on whether the policy is under trust, is assigned, or has a nomination, we will pay out the policy accordingly after the submission is processed.

*If you do not have a PayNow account linked to your NRIC or FIN, you may:

  • Link your NRIC/FIN to your PayNow account using your banking app for a faster payout. Customers who had provided your passport number during purchase, you will also need to update your NRIC/FIN using the Update of personal particulars form.

Questions and Answers

If your claim amount is less than S$1,500,you may submit the following documents instead:

  • For Accident & Emergency visits: after visit summary from restructured hospital or discharge summary from private hospital
  • For medical expenses without hospitalisation: doctor memo, laboratory reports
  • For hospitalisation expenses: inpatient discharge summary
  • Disability benefit: doctor memo or inpatient discharge summary

For smoother claim processing, ensure thatthe cause of injury is clearly stated in the document.

The process is slightly different depending on the type of hospital at which your diagnosis was made. Note that the Doctor'sStatement can only be completed by the doctor who certified your condition.

 For restructured hospitals

a. Download and print the Doctor's Statement template and bring it along with you to the hospital. 

b. Apply through the hospital's Medical Report Office.

c. Make payment. 

d. Your application may take approximately 6 to 8 weeks.

 For private hospitals and specialist clinics

 a. Download and print the Doctor's Statement template and bring it along with you to the
hospital/specialist clinic.

b. Pass the Doctor's Statement to your attending doctor to complete during your visit.

c. Make payment.

d. Your Doctor's Statement will be completed during your visit.

To ensure that your claim is eligible for reimbursement, verify that your TCM practitioner is registered by visiting the TCM Practitioner Board portal.
