With GREAT Family Care, up to three generations can now be protected against critical illnesses through a single plan, a market first in Singapore…
Innovative features of GREAT Family Care include complimentary coverage for all current and future children of the life assured up till the age of 18, with each child enjoying comprehensive coverage of up to $100,000 against 53 critical illnesses and 25 juvenile conditions such as severe asthma and epilepsy without any medical underwriting required.
The Parent Protect rider is another first in Singapore as it provides coverage against major cancers, Alzheimer’s disease or severe dementia and Parkinson’s disease for the parents of the life assured without any medical underwriting. These illnesses have been selected as they are amongst the most common to affect the elderly and will pose a long-term impact on families and caregivers. A lump sum payout will help to ease the financial strain on these families and enable them to provide the necessary care for their parents. Each parent can be covered up to $100,000 till the age of 100 with no questions asked.
In addition, existing Great Eastern policyholders, including those who only hold Dependents Protection Scheme or ElderShield plans, will be able to purchase GREAT Family Care without any medical underwriting.
In conjunction with the launch of GREAT family care, a series of print ads and a thought-provoking three-minute brand film ‘The Kid I never Asked for” has also been launched to encourage Singaporeans to think about planning ahead for their whole family. The touching film has already generated over 70k views on Facebook in the first three days of launch, and over 1,100 likes, shares and comments, proving that it has struck a chord in the heart of many Singaporeans. The campaign is also set to roll out across Print, Cinema, Out of Home and digital platforms in the month of June.

GELAC 2019 Convention – Incredible Destinations, Awesome Qualifiers, Memorable Experiences!
For this year’s GELAC 2019 Convention, we had a record-breaking number of 320 Voyagers and 1,088 Achievers participating in this spectacular journey.
Iceland
The Iceland adventure was filled with memorable experiences ranging from the unpredictable weather changes to the unique places of interest and activities organised for the Voyagers. The achievers had a great time, especially those who managed to catch the “dancing” Northern Lights. The convoy of snow Super Jeeps was also a sight to behold!
Our top qualifiers enjoyed the specially arranged dinners which included a variety of Icelandic delicacies to the Viking experience. The last night ended on a high with a spread of Iceland cuisine and a special homemade brewery toast to the rendition of GCEO’s “We will Rock You”.
London
London, the capital of England and the United Kingdom, is a 21st century city with a rich history stretching back to Roman times. From world heritage sites like Tower of London, iconic landmarks like ‘Big Ben’ Clock Tower, to Michelin star restaurants and trendsetting fashion, London is a magnificent city offering our qualifiers endless options to celebrate their achievements.
Upon arrival, our achievers were warmly welcomed with specially customised Harrods Guardsman Bears. The GELAC 2019 London Convention Gala Dinner was one of the key highlights and a night to remember, as the GELAC qualifiers wined, dined and celebrated 2018’s achievements under a marquee of stars. The venue, Battersea Evolution, was transformed into a playground of “Everything Brit”.
The GELAC 2019 Convention was certainly a joyous event where our management team congratulated and toasted our GELAC qualifiers for their outstanding achievements in 2018. Embracing the company’s call in Moving Together as One, we achieved many significant milestones in this past year.
2019 marks another exciting year as Great Eastern soars to greater heights and achieves greater goals together! GELAC New York 2020, we are coming for you!
2018 Supremacy Summit Destination Trips
In recognition of the immense contributions by our agency force, the 2018 Supremacy Summit destination trips were the perfect tonic for the qualifiers.
In total, there were 1,723 qualifiers who were part of this exciting global adventure. Of these, there were 153 qualifiers for the Excellence trip, 151 qualifiers for the Premier trip, 109 qualifiers for the Super Elite and 1,310 qualifiers for the Elite trip.
The Excellence trip was filled with unforgettable memories, with qualifiers thoroughly enjoying themselves at the Balkan cities of Croatia and Slovenia, namely Zagreb and Ljubljana. Boasting a melting pot of culture, nature and architectural finesse dating back centuries, the qualifiers enjoyed walking tours of the cities, marvelling at Croatia’s oldest national park, boarding a traditional pletna boat to Lake Bled, riding up a funicular at Ljubljana Castle, and more.
Meanwhile, the Premier qualifiers had their own share of magnificent experiences at Gold Coast, Australia. Not only did they get up close with wildlife at Paradise Country Farm and aquatic life at Catch A Crab cruise, they also captured views from Mount Coot-tha Lookout, had thrills at the Warner Bros. Movie World theme park, and shopped till they dropped at various shopping havens.
Last but not least, nothing beats the allure of China’s busiest port city, Guangzhou. Both Super Elite and Elite qualifiers were treated to an array of historical sites like Shawan Ancient Village and Weiyuan Fort, shopping gems like Beijing Road Pedestrian Street, and even a live circus performance to cap their eventful trip.
Needless to say, the Supremacy Summit destination trips were a huge success and we are already looking forward to the next one!
All-Ladies Wealth Seminar by Great Eastern Financial Advisers
On 16 May, Great Eastern Financial Advisers (GEFA) hosted an all-ladies wealth seminar at Mandarin Hotel. The theme of the event was centred on women taking charge of their lives and well-being holistically.
With specially invited female speakers from UOB Asset Management as well as BR Family Assets, the women were taught the principles of constructing a sound portfolio in this cycle while also learning about the importance of having a Lasting Power of Attorney (LPA) drawn up. Chua Cirong, our homegrown financial consultant, shared on her personal success journey and her financial strategies to empower women financially.
In between speakers, the emcee also quizzed the audience on the newly launched Great Life Advantage and Great Wealth Advantage plan features, with enthusiastic participants walking away with $20 shopping voucher each.
The invited guests also received a welcome gift of soap roses as well as a goodie bag with vouchers and practical gifts.
This is the start of more initiatives to come by GEFA to educate and empower women in the area of wealth enlightenment.

Great Eastern Life Malaysia recently won a Silver for ‘Best Candidate Experience by a Corporate HR Team’ at the recent Human Resources Asia Recruitment Awards 2019 Malaysia, which serves to acknowledge the efforts of organisations in recruiting talents. Under this category, our colleagues were recognised for their hard work in providing superior candidate experience to potential employees, all the way from application to offer.
Indonesia Innovation Award 2019
Great Eastern Life Indonesia won the Best Innovation on Life Insurance 2019 award at the Indonesia Innovation Award 2019. Held by the National Information and Communication Technology Entrepreneurs Association (APTIKNAS) & BISKOM Magazine and supported by the Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education (Kemenristekdikti), the award was given based on an evaluation by the jury for the breakthroughs and innovations that Great Eastern Life Indonesia has made in the area of Life Insurance.

With more than half a million Dash users in Singapore, Singtel Dash marks its 5th anniversary this May 2019 with a lineup of celebrations.

CELEBRATE TEAMWORK
The first 2019 Town Hall for GEGM was held on 17 April in Menara Great Eastern. The Town Hall is an important communication channel for the management team (SMT) to share key messages and updates on the company performance and more than 300 staff attended the event.
The chairman of the organising committee started off the session by welcoming the staff and shared the rationale for the theme. Anchored on having a healthy lifestyle, “Great Health Great Wonders” emphasised on how staff can improve or augment actions in their life to lead a healthy lifestyle.
CEO Mr Ng Kok Kheng shared with all on the good business performance for 2018 that had registered growth in new businesses. Mr Ng further reiterated the need of keeping up with the fast-changing business environment. He also emphasised the importance for all staff to remain strongly committed and strive to bring GEGM to greater heights.
Another highlight of the session was having a highly interactive live poll and real-time Q&A session between SMTs and staff. With the mobile live poll app, the organising committee invited staff to vote in a poll and post their queries. The SMTs would then collect a real-time query and give feedback immediately. CEO and SMTs responded to the queries based on work-related priority as they received numerous questions.
The Town Hall ended on a positive note with everyone fully motivated to make 2019 an even greater year for GEGM.
Great Connections: Lunch with Leaders continued its popular run in April 2019. Organised in Singapore as a platform for staff to engage with and learn from our senior management team, staff interacted with James Lee, Managing Director, Group Human Capital, over lunch and sharing on various corporate and personal topics during the session.

The Great Finlit GamePlay at One-North
Great Eastern brings financial literacy to the community at One North.
As part of the collaboration with JTC in community building at the One-North Business Park, Great Eastern hosted the first-ever Great Financial Literacy (FinLit) Gameplay event on 21 and 22 May during JTC’s “Lunch & Learn” session.
This initiative aims to engage the predominately New-to-Workforce population at One-North on financial planning and the importance of insurance protection. The partnership by Group Marketing, Regional Agency & FA (under The GEMs Club) and SAEI was themed “Game your Way to Financial Literacy”, and saw an overwhelming 80 participants enjoying a new experience gaining financial literacy in a fun way.
Using customised PRAXIS financial board game, agency leaders and 23 of their representatives showcased their financial expertise through leading and facilitating the gameplay over the two lunch sessions. Through this, participants not only had a chance to learn useful financial knowledge but also got to know the representatives better through the gameplay interaction. Having received positive feedback from the participants through a survey at the end of the event, the collaboration with JTC at One-North looks promising with subsequent FinLit Gameplay events planned over the next months, and this will extend to events that will include basketball and futsal tournaments.
Our Human Capital team in Malaysia recently organised their annual Secretary Day celebration to acknowledge and appreciate the contributions of secretaries and confidential assistants in assisting their respective superiors and departments, spanning across all three Great Eastern entities (Life, General, and Takaful).
Held at Sarang Cookery, a Nyonya Peranakan and traditional Malay cuisine restaurant, an exclusive corporate cooking class was conducted where all 24 staff learned how to cook Kapitan Chicken and Kuih Ketayap (crepes with palm sugar and grated coconut). The event was filled with big smiles and laughter, and completed dishes were then enjoyed with each assistant’s respective superior who graced the event to join for lunch!
Commemorating Kartini Day this April, Great Eastern Life Indonesia held a Live Great Programme for OCBC NISP employees with the theme ‘The Art of Balancing All (Family, Work and My Self)’.
The event, which was attended by more than 200 OCBC NISP employees, featured Shahnaz Haque, an Indonesian public figure, a successful business woman, and also a mother of three children. Shahnaz shared her experiences as a woman who is successful in managing businesses and also managing things at home, and how to overcome various challenges in having a successful balance.
